Creative NON-FICTION

All writing is an act of courage. This statement holds especially true for Creative Nonfiction. This can be one of the most difficult genres to write in because it comes from a space of vulnerability.  For the author, Creative Nonfiction is a safe place both for expression and self-exploration, even catharsis. For the reader, it is an opportunity to develop empathy and compassion.

On another note, the term ‘Creative Nonfiction’ has a contradictory feel to it. Nonfiction means facts; and how can we get creative with facts? But in every challenge, there also lies a sliver of opportunity. Creative nonfiction allows the narrator to be both journalistic and poetic, something that can produce the most beautiful pieces of writing.

In this section, we bring to you two carefully crafted pieces which have everything that it takes to make a piece of creative nonfiction engaging and relatable. Sayani De and Suchitra Sukumar write with touching honesty about their experiences and touch an emotional chord. One piece explores relationships —with food, places and people. The other gives a window into pain and healing.

Read on, and immerse yourself in the imagery and richness of emotion that our authors have created for you.
